Artifact Relay

Artifact Relay

The Charles Dickens Museum is currently preparing for the bicentenary celebration of Charles Dickens in 2012. The Museum is a non-for-profit charitable organisation aiming to preserve the legacy of Charles Dickens. To help bring Dickens to a global audience, the Museum is planning a worldwide Artifact Relay for an original item Dickens himself used. If your organisation is interested in hosting these artifacts please contact Dr. Florian Schweizer, Curator of the Museum at florian.schweizer@dickensmuseum.com

While the Olympic torch is travelling around the globe on its way to the London 2012 Games, we are sending out a selection of Dickensian artifacts to cities all over the world. This mini travelling exhibit is designed to be displayed in public venues such as libraries and schools. We would like to encourage teachers and enthusiasts to plan an event or teaching session. Ideas for this can be discussed on our artifact forum.

Cities on the itinerary currently include:

London
Tokyo
Leipzig
Johannesburg
Melbourne
Toronto
New York
Philadelphia
Los Angeles
Santa Cruz
Worcester, Mass.
Galveston, TX
Deventer
Rochester
Chatham, Ontario Canada

The artifacts

A monthly part of David Copperfield
First edition of Nicholas Nickleby
Replica of letter 'All right In great speed off!'
Original colour illustration of Oliver Twist
Quill pen used by Charles Dickens
